Great Circle Map

The Great Circle Map is a fixed map that can be used as a quick reference when planning antenna layouts or using a rotatable yagi beam or quad. Moving your mouse over the map will show the current short path or long path direction to the country that is under the mouse at that moment. There are 8 different Great Circle Maps, centred on each of the 8 VK call-regions: VK1-VK8, or you can use a custom map. To change the one that is displayed, click 'Help > Options > Mapping > Great Circle Map'.

The size of the Great Circle Map changes as the window is resized. Three different sizes are available.

If you wish to know the correct bearing to a specific DXCC entity, you will need to first enter your home-details by clicking 'Help > Options > Mapping' then enter your callsign in 'My Callsign', and your home QTH Latitude and Longitude in the 'My Latitude' and 'My Longitude' boxes. With your details stored, click 'Browse Tables > Browse DXCC List'. Right-click anywhere on the list and choose 'User Spatial Query'. This will sort the list in order of distance from your home QTH. You can click the 'Id' column header to quickly sort the list by prefix, or click the 'Bearing' column-header to sort by short-path bearing from your QTH. To get the Long Path bearing for any value, add 180 degrees.

You can add a custom great circle map if you wish, centred on your own position. There is a nominal charge for this: 5 AUD. It will be supplied as a zip-file. The programme does all the work of unpacking and installing it.
