Grid Locator List Points

The 'Plot > Grid Locator List Points' menu-subitem allows you to plot a file containing a list of grid-locators on the Online and Overlay maps with makers. The file should contain only one grid-locator per line. Grid locators can be 4-character (i.e. PH57) or 6-character (i.e. PH57jm) or 8-character (i.e. PH57jm35). After processing, the center-position of each grid-square will be plotted on the Online and Overlay maps with a marker, to 8-character precision.

Although, by definition, a Grid Square defines a rectangular area rather than a single point, plotting Grid Squares as points makes sense if you are using 6 or 8-character Grid Locators. Plotting these as boxes results rectangles so small that it is hard to even know that they exist when the map is zoomed out. Plotting a marker instead or as well as the box ensures that a location can be seen no matter what the zoom-setting is.

The Grid Locator name will be shown as a popup-tooltip when your mouse hovers over the marker. You can turn the Mouse Position Label on or off by clicking 'Mapping > Online and Overlay Mapping Options > Show Map Mouse-Position'.

You can change the type of marker used for Position Markers by clicking 'Help > Options > Markers > Choose Grid Locator Marker-Type'. There are 37 different marker-types available.

Right-click the marker to perform a Spatial Query, which will order a list by distance from the position of the marker.

Unlike the boxes, Grid Locator Markers are added to the 'Position' layer above the Online and Overlay maps, which can be controlled independently of the others. Use the menu-subitems below 'Markers' to temporarily hide or permanently clear the markers in the Position layer.

The list of Grid Locators is also shown in the 'Tables' tab.
