Layer Groups

The 'Layer-Groups' window provides a way to save the current Map-Layers that are showing on the screen in a named group, that can then be easily reloaded at will. The settings for the InfoBar and DataBar can also be saved.

There are two ways to show the 'Layer-Groups' window:

1/ Click the small 'hamburger' button in the top-right of the map, which will show the pop-up 'Controls-Panel', then click the 'Layer-Groups' button in the 'Controls-Panel'.

2/ Type the two characters 'LG' on your keyboard.

To explain the window controls in detail:

The upper-box (the Layer-Box) shows a number of ordered Map-Layers. The 'Time Mapper UHD' can show 60 or more map-layers. The order that they are shown in the Layer-Box is the order that they are plotted on to the map. To illustrate this: at the 'back' of the map is the map itself, the Base Map. In front of that is added the optional 'Gray Line Terminator' that shows the areas currently illuminated by the Sun. In front of that are the Map-Layers, divided into three sections: Raster, Slow Vector, and High-Speed Vector. (See the 'Main Map' help-page for more about that.) The three sections are indicated by different label background colors in the Layer-Box. The sections are also divided by spacers. The layer at the top of the Layer-Box is the layer that will be drawn over the 'Gray Line Terminator', at the back of the map. Subsequent layers in the Layer-Box will be drawn on top of it. The last layer, at the bottom of the Layer-Box, is the layer that will be drawn on top of all the other map-layers.

To choose which Map-Layers are showing, and their plot-order, you need the 'Layers Menu'. The 'Layer-Groups' window doesn't alter the number, type, or position of layers, but what it does do is to let you save those layers in a named group, inspect the contents of other pre-saved groups, or easily load a pre-saved group of layers for display on the map.

Saving a Group of Map Layers

Set up your layers in advance with the 'Layers Menu', and then close it and select the 'Layer Groups' window. The selector-control will show 'Current Map Contents', and the Layer-Box will show all the current map-layers. To save them with a suitable name for future use, just enter a name in the box below. The name can be 3-24 characters in length, and must only use characters from A-Z, a-z, 0-9, or Space. You can also choose to check the 'Include InfoBar' control, which will remember the current InfoBar page, and/or the 'Include DataBar' control, which will remember all of the current settings used in the DataBar with your layers.

After saving your group, its name will be shown in the selector-control.

Deleting a Group of Map Layers

To delete a previously-saved Layer-Group, just choose it with the selector-control, and then click the 'Delete This Group from the Database' button.

Browsing the Contents of Previously-saved Layer-Groups

To see what the previously-saved Layer-Groups contain, change the Layer-Group name in the selector-control. The program includes some pre-defined layers as an illustration, though you can delete them if you wish.

Displaying a Layer Group on the Map

To show the map-layers in a Layer-Group on the map, select the Layer-Group name in the selector-control, and then close the 'Layer-Groups' window in the normal way. The map will re-draw itself using the map-layers and their order that was shown in the Layer-Box. If chosen, the visibility and page of the InfoBar, and the settings for the DataBar, will also be loaded.
