Description

A Compass Rose, sometimes called a wind rose, rose of the winds or compass star, is a figure on a compass, map, or chart used to display the orientation of the Cardinal Directions (North, East, South, And West) and their intermediate points, known as Intercardinal or Ordinal points.

This Map Layer is a Vector Layer composed of a Label, so the Style for this can be changed as desired by opening the 'Layers Menu', clicking the wanted layer on the left, then clicking 'Change Label Style Settings' on the right, which opens the 'Edit Compass Rose Settings' window.

The Compass Rose is drawn with two colors: 'Color A' which is used for graphics and Font-Color, and 'Color B' which is only used for graphics. As with other layers, these colors apply only to the current map. You can choose your selection of Font Family, but the Font Size is set by the program, dependent on the current size of the Compass Rose. The Screen Position and the Edge Padding (the distance from the Compass Rose to the side of the map-window) can also be adjusted using the controls in the 'Edit Compass Rose Settings' window. The window also shows what the Compass Rose will look like when saved.

There are five Compass Rose styles available, selected from Layer Features, or from within the 'Edit Compass Rose Settings' window.
