Auxiliary Log

The 'Auxiliary Log' tab-page shows a stored log that can be plotted on the Online and Overlay Maps. It is designed to provide an area of temporary storage, so that a log-file can be examined and edited before some or all of the QSOs are added to the Main Log: their permanent place of storage.

You can load ADIF or Cabrillo-format logs to the Auxiliary Log. ADIF logs can include the received-callsign's position using the dedicated 'LAT' or 'LON' tags, or the encoded 'GRIDSQUARE' tag. The QSOs, therefore, do not rely on the callsign database for their positional information, and indeed, are likely to be more accurate than positions derived from the postcode and suburb, which is the method that is used to geocode the callbook data. The Cabrillo-format (Link will open in your Browser), favoured by contest operators, has no facility to provide a means of storing the position of the received call (except in certain cases where the Grid Locator is used as part of the contest exchange), and so the log will be geocoded using callsign-positions derived from the callbook database. Any Grid Locators in the contest exchange will be given priority, though, as these are likely to be more accurate than the postcode-position found in the callbook address. Certain QSO-lines in the file will not be added to the Auxiliary Log: those with coding errors, non-VK calls, portable calls, and calls not found in the callbook database.

Sub-selections of the log can be plotted, detailing QSOs by band, mode, or confirmed status. The Auxiliary Log has its own upper menu-group, on the top line of the window, with various menu sub-items: Load ADIF to Auxiliary Log, Load Cabrillo to Auxiliary Log, Plot All Calls, Plot Confirmed Calls, Plot Unconfirmed Calls, Plot Calls By Band, Plot Calls By Mode, Delete Auxiliary Log.

When first supplied, the Auxiliary Log contains a fictional sample-log, to show you some of the things that can be done with a saved log, but this log can easily be deleted and replaced with your own ADIF or Cabrillo log. There are separate menu-items for loading the Auxiliary Log depending on the type of log in the file: they can be found by clicking 'Auxiliary Log > Load ADIF to Auxiliary Log' or 'Auxiliary Log > Load Cabrillo to Auxiliary Log'.

You can select a line by left or right-clicking it. Unlike the 'Tables' page, the Auxiliary Log page allows multiple lines to be selected simultaneously. Left clicking will select one line at a time. Holding the Control-Key down whilst left-clicking will add lines to the current selection. Right-clicking will also add lines to the current selection. Holding the Shift-Key down whilst left-clicking will select all lines from the last selection to the current line.

Right-clicking a line in the Auxiliary Log shows a context-menu with various options: Show on Map, Copy Line to Clipboard, Edit Line, Delete Line, Delete All Selected, Merge Selected with Main.

Note that Auxiliary Log facilities are only available during the Trial Period, and if the programme is subsequently registered with an 'Advanced' licence. You can always upgrade a 'Standard' licence if you wish to enable Main and Auxiliary Log storage and plotting.
