When did you start contesting ?
In 1971 in the CQ WW CW contest. Rested from 1995 until 1999 and active again since then.
Comments about your early contesting...
It was easier then, I think. But then the past is always nicer!!
What do you enjoy about HF Contesting ?:
The way a rare station can suddenly appear as if from nowhere and dissappear as quick.
What do you attribute to your success ?
What success!! I live in hope of at least equalling some of the other EI's for a start.
Which are your favourite contests, and why ?
All of the CQ contests, as they really test your operating skills, and patience.
What is the next planned improvement to your station ?
A few good wire beams for the lf bands. I'm lucky to have 300 acres with high trees here in the college grounds.
What tips would you pass on to budget-contesters ?
Pick a category suitable for the gear and time you have.
What advice do you have for new contesters ?
Just go and air and stick with it. Even a dead band can suddenly come to life. A few years ago 10m suddenly opened to the Pacific around 10pm here.
